In addition to phenomenal power and acceleration, these engines are clean, quiet, smooth and economical, thanks to Yamaha's unique and fuel efficient EFI system, micro processor ECU, VCT (Variable Camshaft Timeing), blow-by gas re-burning technology, and noise reduction systems.
Yamaha F250 four stroke outboard engine features:
- Primestart - chokeless system - easy as starting your car
- Idle noise reduction system
- Fresh water flushing system - reduces corrosion and extends engine life
- Shallow water drive
- CDI/TCI ignition system
Yamaha added Variable Cam Shaft Timing for increased low- and midrange torque. The variable camshaft rotates to advance and retard intake camshafts to adjust the intake timing. This variable timing increases volumetric efficiency to increase low- and midrange torque needed to get larger, heavier boats on plane.
The Engine Control Module directs the oil control valve to supply oil pressure inside the Variable Camshaft Actuator; this advances and retards camshaft timing on the basis of engine rpm. When fully advanced, the camshaft opens and closes the intake valves sooner. This advanced intake timing places the combustion chamber in valve-overlap position, which increases intake and exhaust efficiency. Plus, closing the intake valve sooner helps build higher combustion-chamber pressure, resulting in greater volumetric efficiency. The result is a 16-percent gain in torque in the 2,000- to 3,500-rpm range.
The F250 uses a 60-degree, 3.3-liter, 24-valve DOHC engine block that features strong forged pistons and specially heat-treated crankshaft and connecting rods for additional durability and strength. The double-overhead cam design allows greater valve-timing control plus four valves per cylinder to provide clean, powerful combustion.
Yamaha engineers developed an In-Bank Exhaust System, a Yamaha exclusive and patented innovation that reverses the intake- and exhaust-system layouts when compared with conventional four-stroke V6 engines. Large-diameter intake valves deliver the air-fuel mixture to the combustion chamber more efficiently. An Exhaust Pressure Reduction System reduces exhaust pressures while cooling the hub on the propeller. This increases horsepower output while simultaneously increasing propeller durability.
