16-Valve DOHC Direct-Action In-Line 4
These Yamaha engines use 2 intake valves and 2 exhaust valves on each cylinder, driven independently by 2 camshafts. This system improves both intake and exhaust efficiency, for optimum use of fuel during combustion. Each engine features a TCI ignition system for easy starting, consistency, longer plug life and ultimate reliability.
Micro-computer ECM (Engine Control Module)
This micro-computer is the ‘brain’ behind your engine. It constantly monitors all data inputs and settings, helping to ensure smooth running and optimised ignition timings – as well as automatically activating warning & protection systems. A handy access port lets an authorised Yamaha dealer instantly diagnose any problems.
Warning Systems for protection & safety
Oil pressure, engine temperature and other key conditions are monitored, and the data used by various audio/visual warning devices. If a fault occurs, engine rpm is automatically reduced for as long as the fault persists – ensuring maximum engine protection as you head for the shore.
PrimeStart™
Exclusive to Yamaha, the PrimeStart™ auto-choke feature makes start-up as easy as starting a car. Eliminating the need for a conventional choke at engine warm-up, it lets you start from cold simply by turning the key.
Counter-rotating propeller models
A standard twin-engine installation (both propellers turning clockwise) ‘pulls’ the boat towards the port side, making steering difficult, especially at higher speeds. F115 and F150 models are available with a counter-rotating propeller, offering perfect ‘neutral helm’ control when fitted alongside a standard mode.
Dual Battery Charging System
A special Dual Battery Charging System charges two batteries simultaneously, keeping plenty of power available for engine starts – even after long periods at low rpm.
